High Pressure Jetting is a powerful and effective cleaning method that uses water and high pressure to clean surfaces. It is often used for cleaning large surfaces such as buildings, car parks, and bridges. In this case study, we will explore how APT helped Blaenau Gwent Council in Ebbw Vale transform their multi-storey car park using high pressure jetting and other cleaning solutions.
The multi-storey car park in Ebbw Vale had become an eyesore, with the walls covered in offensive graffiti, and moss and algae permeating the floors and steps, making them slippery and dangerous. Chewing gum was also prevalent throughout the building. Dirt and grime were apparent, and the car park had suffered many years of weathering. The council had received complaints from the local chamber of commerce as well as shoppers who used the car park during their visits. It had also become a hub for anti-social behaviour within the town.
APT was called to investigate and provide a cleaning solution to the poor aesthetic appearance of the car park. A full site survey was conducted by APT to assess the severity of the problem. During the meeting with the town council, it was decided that the safest and fastest method would be high pressure jetting in conjunction with using APT’s commercial chemicals, Algae Free, Ghost Buster, Graffiti Remover, and Gum Gone chewing gum remover. A full cleaning programme was then put together.
APT organised and co-ordinated a full traffic and pedestrian management programme to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved. The programme included the erection of scaffolding, which allowed APT to access all areas of the building safely.
Graffiti Removal Using APT’s own graffiti remover, we were able to quickly re-instate many of the walls, removing the offensive graffiti and restoring the walls to their original condition.
Algae and Moss Removal APT Algae Free was used to clean and remove all algae from the building in an environmentally friendly manner. The algae had caused the steps to become dangerous due to the fungi build-up. APT’s specialist algae removal solution was used to clean the walls and floors of the car park. The solution was applied using high pressure jetting, ensuring that all areas were thoroughly cleaned.
Chewing Gum Removal Chewing gum was rife throughout the building. APT used a mix of Gum Gone and soda blasting to remove the chewing gum. Soda blasting is a gentle cleaning method that uses sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and compressed air to remove stubborn stains, dirt, and other contaminants from surfaces. The chewing gum was removed without causing any damage to the surfaces.
Painting – APT also painted the walls and doors where necessary, giving the car park a fresh, clean look.
Drain Clearing and Safety Barriers Drains were cleared, and new safety barriers were installed to ensure the safety of all car park users.
The building was transformed both externally and internally, becoming a landmark of the town of Ebbw Vale in Blaenau Gwent, South Wales. The council received positive feedback from the local community and shoppers who used the car park. The multi-storey car park was no longer an eyesore and had become a safe and pleasant environment for all users.
“Thank you to all at APT, the boys worked non-stop and were highly professional and polite. The office staff could not do enough to help and put us at ease. We never expected such a great result; it’s totally transformed the car park and made a big impact on the town centre.”
