HIGH LEVEL CLEANING & FACTORY RESTORATION
Volcke Aerosols UK, Cwmbran, South Wales, NP44
Client's Challenge
Volcke Aerosols UK required a specialist contractor to deliver high-level industrial cleaning and associated factory cleaning works within their live manufacturing facility in Cwmbran.
The objective was to restore cleanliness, presentation and maintainability across the production environment through a combination of high-level cleaning, industrial degreasing, floor cleaning, cladding cleaning, gutter cleaning and associated restoration works.
The programme had to be delivered around a busy production schedule with restricted working windows, including activity over the Christmas period. Multiple work streams were active simultaneously, with constant movement of contractors and personnel on site, requiring structured daily coordination and strict safety controls.
The client required a contractor capable of managing complex logistics, maintaining production continuity and delivering works safely within a live aerosol manufacturing environment.
Assessment & Planning
APT ICC held pre-start meetings with the client’s Health & Safety officer and site project manager to agree safe systems of work and sequencing.
The assessment focused on:
• High-level access requirements across production areas
• Appropriate degreasing and cleaning processes for the site environment
• Scheduling works to avoid disruption to production
• Managing multiple work streams safely within shared spaces
• Identifying opportunities for efficiency and cost savings
A full factory inspection was completed by APT ICC’s site surveyor to confirm detailed cleaning requirements and agree the most effective delivery ,methodology. A structured project management plan was implemented to manage daily access changes and maintain safety throughout the programme.
Methodology
The works were delivered using a structured, production-aware approach:
1. Pre-start planning and H&S coordination
Risk assessments, method statements and access plans were agreed with site management prior to mobilisation.
2. High-level internal cleaning and degreasing
Internal steelwork and structural elements were cleaned and degreased using specialist access methods within production areas.
3. High-level gutter and roof valley cleaning
Internal and external gutters and roof valleys were cleared to restore effective drainage.
4. Floor cleaning and surface restoration
Production and access floor areas were cleaned to improve cleanliness, safety and maintainability.
5. Cladding treatment and protection
Steel cladding surfaces were treated using anti-rust primer systems, with industrial painting recommendations provided to support long-term maintenance and washable finishes.
6. Moss and algae removal (where required)
External areas affected by biological growth were treated and cleaned using controlled methods and jet washing.
