COMMERCIAL DEEP CLEANING & INDUSTRIAL PAINTING
WEPA UK Ltd - Bridgend, South Wales, CF34
Client's Challenge
WEPA UK required a specialist contractor to undertake commercial deep cleaning and industrial painting works at their paper mill in Bridgend, South Wales.
Key mill machinery had accumulated significant grease and grime during operation. This contamination needed to be fully removed to allow correct surface preparation and ensure long-term adhesion and durability of industrial coating systems.
The client also required industrial painting works to be completed to specification within a controlled shutdown window. Cleaning works needed to be completed, inspected and approved before any priming or recoating could take place, to avoid coating failure and rework.
APT ICC were appointed to deliver both the cleaning and industrial painting elements in a coordinated, structured programme.
Assessment & Planning
APT ICC worked closely with WEPA UK’s on-site engineering team to assess
the condition of dismantled mill machinery and internal metal surfaces.
The assessment focused on:
• Levels of grease and grime contamination
• Suitability of dry ice blasting for sensitive machinery components
• Surface preparation requirements for industrial painting
• Sequencing of cleaning, inspection and coating stages
• Shutdown window constraints and reinstatement timelines
A structured programme was developed to ensure all cleaning was completed, checked and signed off prior to the application of any coating systems.
Methodology
The project was delivered using a controlled, preparation-led
methodology:
1. Industrial machinery preparation
Dismantled mill machinery and associated components were prepared for deep cleaning.
2. Dry ice blast cleaning
Dry ice blasting was used as the primary cleaning method to remove grease and grime from sensitive machinery surfaces without abrasion or damage.
3. Targeted degreasing support
Where required, additional degreasing cleaning was carried out to ensure all residues were fully removed prior to coating.
4. Cleaning inspection and approval
All cleaned surfaces were reviewed to confirm suitability for industrial coatings.
5. Industrial priming and recoating
Once approved, industrial painting teams applied primers and recoated mill machinery and metal surfaces using colour-matched coatings to specification.
6. Additional cleaning support (post-completion)
Following successful delivery, WEPA UK requested additional quotations for warehouse cleaning works, demonstrating confidence in the quality of delivery.
