Client's Challenge

Abergavenny Theatre required a specialist commercial deep clean and high-level dust removal programme within the main auditorium ahead of reopening to the public.

Over time, dust and debris had accumulated on overhead beams, baffles, air handling components, and structural features at heights of up to approximately 10 metres. This contamination affected presentation, cleanliness, and overall venue standards.

The theatre required a contractor capable of delivering a safe, efficient, and controlled cleaning programme within a short, fixed shutdown window, ensuring the auditorium was fully cleaned, refreshed, and ready for audiences returning on Monday.

Assessment & Planning  

APT ICC met with theatre management to review the auditorium layout, identify high-level contamination areas, and confirm the required completion deadline.

The assessment focused on determining safe access methods for working at height, protecting seating, staging, and sensitive finishes, and sequencing works to ensure no recontamination occurred once high-level dust removal was completed.

A structured cleaning plan and safe system of work were agreed to allow full completion within the weekend shutdown period.

    Methodology

    The cleaning works were delivered using a structured, venue-appropriate
    approach:

    1. Establishment of safe working zones and protection of seating, staging, and finishes.

    2. High-level dust removal from beams, baffles, and overhead structures using controlled cleaning methods.

    3. Cleaning of reachable air conditioning units and high-level surfaces.

    4. Full auditorium deep clean from top to bottom, including walls, floors, skirting boards, doors, and window cills.

    5. Cleaning of stage and rear staging areas to remove settled dust and debris.

    6. Sanitising and deodorising of key touchpoints and surfaces.

    7. Final inspection to confirm cleanliness and readiness for reopening.
