Barclays Bank was undergoing building restoration at the Bridgend branch. The building was an historic listed building. They required a variety of services to include the building’s façade as well as restoration to internal structures. APT and other companies were contacted by Overbury Plc and invited to assess the building cleaning and property restoration project. We were asked to advise on most suitable, holistic method for cleaning the building along recommendations for how to refurbish and restore several areas within the bank.
One of the major concerns for Overbury was the stone façade of the historic building and how that was going to be cleaned without harming the buildings substrate. Since APT had worked on many historical building restoration projects we were confident that the Bridgend bank could be cleaned using our environmentally friendly soda blasting technique. APT surveyors attended a site meeting with the Overbury Project Management team; several recommendations were made by APT to save costs of the refurbishment and to change the media for cleaning the building exterior.
Exterior Building Cleaning
Our specialist technicians trialled the soda blast cleaning service on the masonry, portland stonework and the terrazzo columns. The building’s façade suffered years of environmental pollution and algae this needed to be removed. Overbury agreed that this was the most effective method for this historic building restoration, due to the sensitivity and safe cleaning process.
Unlike some blasting media, soda blast cleaning does not harm the substrate, it works in harmony with the building’s makeup. Soda Blast cleaning quickly and effectively removes pollution and surface build-up from the building façade, leaving the building clean and unscathed. The building restoration also consisted of removing the existing exterior night safe and replace with an indistinguishable reclaimed portland stone. Our expert stone craftsmen were brought in to construct the stonework ensuring that it blended in perfectly to match the existing section of the building.
Interior Building Restoration at Bridgend
The oak framed window which sat above the night safe, required replacing and needed to match the existing corresponding windows. APT brought in their professional carpenters to remove the old and replace with newly built window. Our carpenters were also required to make up and install new ornate carpentry to the ground floor to match the existing. The new pieces merged into the window frames and surrounds effortlessly.
Lime plaster work throughout the building needed to be upgraded and repaired, our team worked throughout the night on a tight time frame to ensure the repairs were completed according to specification and time frame allocated for the restoration Bridgend project.
It goes without saying that the chosen company, in this case APT, had to adhere to a strict code of practice and security whilst working on the inside and outside of the building. We were assessed and accredited to work on Barclays Bank Bridgend branch. The project was carried outside of opening hours, working through the nights.
The exterior of the building underwent a transformation process that involved cleaning the masonry to improve its aesthetic appearance. The internal building services, matched exactly as per designs. The results were welcomed by Overbury and the team at Barclays Bridgend.
“I would like to thank APT-ICC for their excellent work and assistance on the Barclays Bank project. They delivered the scheme and additional works on time and without issue thanks to Andrew and his team for all your extra effort, long hours and commitment.
