Client's Challenge
James Town Ltd required specialist mould cleaning to remove black mould from multiple damp shower areas within an exterior shower block.
The mould growth was negatively impacting the appearance of the facility and raised hygiene concerns for users. Due to the consistently damp environment, a long-term solution was required that would not only remove visible mould but also treat affected surfaces to help prevent recurrence.
Assessment & Planning
Prior to mobilisation, APT ICC assessed the extent of mould contamination across the shower areas, identifying the most heavily affected zones and underlying environmental conditions contributing to mould growth.
A cleaning methodology was selected that focused on:
• Killing mould spores at source
• Removing staining and organic residue
• Restoring surfaces to a hygienic, user-safe condition
• Using products suitable for wet, high-use environments
Special attention was given to chemical selection to ensure suitability for repeated-use shower facilities and ongoing hygiene performance.
Methodology
APT ICC delivered a structured mould remediation and hygiene cleaning programme:
1. Preparation and segregation
Affected areas were isolated and prepared to allow controlled deep cleaning and prevent spread of contamination.
2. Mould treatment application
UltraClean MB was applied to affected shower surfaces to treat black mould growth and kill mould spores at source.
3. Controlled dwell time
Appropriate dwell time was allowed to ensure the chemical action fully penetrated contaminated areas.
4. Steam cleaning
Professional steam cleaning was used to lift residual contamination and deliver a deep hygienic finish across treated surfaces.
5. Final inspection and wipe-down
All areas were inspected and detailed to confirm effective mould removal and clean presentation.
