Client's Challenge

Nexperia required immediate high-level cleaning and specialist industrial deep cleaning support at their Newport facility, alongside an ongoing planned maintenance programme to bring key areas back to a workable, inspection-ready condition.

The site presented complex challenges, including working safely at height, restricted access around live plant equipment, and contamination affecting external cladding, canopy structures, metal tubework and associated systems.

In addition, the client required a contractor capable of supporting pest control and waste removal activities as part of a wider maintenance strategy, while maintaining strict safety controls and minimal disruption to operations within a live semiconductor manufacturing environment.

Assessment & Planning  

APT ICC completed a comprehensive site assessment prior to mobilisation to confirm:

• Working heights and access constraints across multiple elevations
• Priority cleaning zones requiring immediate attention
• Safe access solutions for tight and restricted plant areas
• Suitable in-house chemical systems for the contamination present
• A phased delivery plan aligned to client instructions and operational priorities

Detailed RAMS documentation was produced to reflect the high-risk nature of the works, and a cost-effective phased programme was agreed to deliver visible improvement quickly while allowing for ongoing maintenance without unnecessary downtime.

Methodology

Step 1: Site mobilisation and access planning
APT ICC established safe working zones and deployed specialist access equipment to reach high-level areas while maintaining compliance with site safety requirements.

Step 2: High-level cleaning and cladding restoration
Targeted high-level surfaces and cladding areas were cleaned using specialist industrial cleaning methods to remove built-up grime, contamination and environmental residues.

Step 3: External structure and tubework cleaning
External canopy structures, rolling tubes and large metal pipework were cleaned to restore surface condition and improve inspection readiness.

Step 4: Industrial plant cleaning support
Effluent and extraction plant areas were cleaned as directed by the client, using controlled methods suitable for sensitive industrial systems.

Step 5: Waste removal and pest control support
Commercial and hazardous waste was removed in line with site requirements, with cleaning support provided to assist ongoing pest control and extermination activities where required.

Step 6: Phased maintenance delivery
Works were delivered in phases, allowing the client to direct priorities across the site while maintaining control of programme scope, cost and timing.
