Client's Challenge
Renold Couplings required a reputable and experienced industrial cleaning contractor to deliver a full factory clean at their Cardiff engineering plant, supporting upcoming factory inspections and ongoing health and safety compliance.
The machinery and wider factory environment had been in constant use for many years without a comprehensive deep clean. As a result, grease, oils and
contamination had spread across machinery, factory floors, warehouse areas and high-level surfaces, creating a complex, site-wide cleaning challenge.
The client required a contractor who could demonstrate competence
through accredited processes, trained operatives and robust planning - while ensuring all works could be delivered with minimal disruption to live production and warehouse activity.
Assessment & Planning
APT ICC carried out a full factory cleaning survey through an accredited site surveyor to assess:
• The extent and spread of grease and contamination across the site
• The condition of factory floors, warehouse floors and machinery surfaces
• High-level cleaning and cladding cleaning access requirements
• Appropriate industrial cleaning chemicals for engineering environments
• A phased delivery programme to maintain operational continuity
Findings were documented and reviewed with the client’s project management and health & safety team. Chemical selection and method control were treated as critical, ensuring effective degreasing without risk to machinery, processes or inspection compliance.
Methodology
1: Site mobilisation and phased scheduling
APT ICC agreed a phased cleaning programme aligned to operational priorities, allowing production and warehouse activity to continue safely while cleaning progressed in controlled sections.
2: Industrial machinery cleaning and degreasing
Specialist APT ICC degreasers were applied to plant equipment and machinery to remove grease, oils and industrial residues. Operatives worked methodically to clean machinery without introducing risk to components or surrounding processes.
3: Factory and warehouse floor cleaning
Heavy grease build-up across production and warehouse floors was treated using industrial degreasing solutions and mechanised cleaning systems. A heavy-duty scrubber dryer was used to restore floors to a safe, maintainable condition.
4: High-level and cladding cleaning
High-level access equipment was deployed to remove accumulated dust, grease and contamination from elevated surfaces and cladding, supporting overall cleanliness and inspection readiness.
5: Quality control and handover
Works were completed within the agreed timeframe with consistent site management oversight, ensuring safety, sequencing and cleaning standards were
maintained throughout delivery.
