FOOD FACTORY CLEANING & DRY ICE BLASTING
Loseley Ice Creams - Cwmbran, South Wales, NP44
Client's Challenge
Loseley Ice Creams required a comprehensive factory cleaning solution to restore hygiene standards across their food production environment, including the removal of contamination from industrial machinery and a full deep clean of the wider factory premises.
The client had previously attempted dry ice cleaning through another contractor without success and required a reliable, cost-effective alternative that would deliver measurable results without introducing risk to sensitive equipment or food safety standards.
Due to ongoing production demands, the works also needed to be completed within a tightly controlled shutdown window, delivered to strict time and budget constraints, and with minimal disruption to daily operations.
Assessment & Planning
APT ICC conducted a detailed factory survey and developed tailored proposals designed to:
• Address contamination on machinery without damaging sensitive substrates
• Deliver deep factory cleaning in line with food production hygiene requirements
• Rebuild confidence following a previously unsuccessful dry ice cleaning attempt
• Complete all works within strict time and budget constraints
To reduce risk and validate methodology, APT ICC proposed a controlled trial day, demonstrating cryogenic dry ice blasting delivered by trained specialist operators. This allowed the client to approve the approach with confidence prior to full mobilisation.
Methodology
Step 1: Factory survey and shutdown coordination
APT ICC assessed machinery contamination levels and factory deep-clean requirements, then agreed a tightly coordinated cleaning schedule aligned to a short production shutdown window.
Step 2: Dry ice cleaning (cryogenic ice blasting) of machinery
Using specialist dry ice blasting equipment, contaminated machinery surfaces were cleaned using CO₂ pellets projected at high velocity. On impact, the dry ice sublimated, lifting dirt, grease and residues without leaving secondary waste, moisture or abrasive media.
This method allowed effective machinery cleaning while supporting hygiene control and reducing downtime.
Step 3: Deep factory cleaning using food-safe degreasing systems
In parallel, APT ICC carried out deep factory cleaning across floors, walls and required hard surfaces using in-house food-safe chemical solutions. The
cleaning process removed stubborn grease, grime and contamination, restoring the factory to a clean, hygienic operational standard.

Site Access & Logistics

Equipment
• Cryogenic dry ice blasting equipment (CO₂ pellet blasting system)
• Industrial cleaning equipment suitable for food production environments
• Professional PPE for controlled factory cleaning works
Chemicals
• UltraClean MB – food-safe, super concentrated multi-purpose cleaner and degreaser used for deep factory cleaning across floors, walls and hard surfaces to support hygiene control
The Results
APT ICC delivered a safe, effective and controlled cleaning programme that restored both hygiene standards and operational cleanliness across Loseley Ice Creams’ factory environment.
Key outcomes included:
• Successful removal of contamination from industrial machinery using dry ice blasting
• Improved hygiene and cleanliness across the wider factory through deep cleaning
• Reduced risk of bacterial contamination through controlled food-safe degreasing methods
• Works delivered within a restricted shutdown window, minimising disruption to production
The client was pleased with the results achieved, and the project
demonstrated that dry ice cleaning delivers strong outcomes when applied by trained specialists using the correct methodology.
