COMMERCIAL FLOOR PAINTING & SURFACE PREPARATION
Cup Ceramics - Hereford, HR1
Client's Challenge
CUP Ceramics required a full refresh of an internal industrial floor area measuring approximately 95 metres in length. The existing floor surface showed signs of wear, contamination and general degradation, requiring thorough cleaning and preparation prior to repainting.
To achieve a durable and consistent finish, the floor needed correct mechanical preparation before the application of a two-pack epoxy coating system. The works also had to be delivered within a live industrial environment, requiring strict segregation to maintain safe access for staff and visitors throughout the programme.
Assessment & Planning
APT ICC worked closely with CUP Ceramics to assess the condition of the floor and define the most effective preparation and coating approach.
The assessment focused on:
• Existing surface condition and contamination levels
• Mechanical preparation requirements to create a suitable key
• Epoxy coating specification and finish expectations
• Colour selection and coverage requirements
• Site access constraints within a live manufacturing environment
A structured programme of works was agreed, ensuring correct preparation, controlled application and safe curing of the epoxy system.
Methodology
The floor cleaning and painting works were delivered using a controlled, phased process:
1. Work zone segregation
Barriers and hazard signage were installed to isolate the working area safely.
2. Mechanical floor cleaning and preparation
The full 95-metre floor area was mechanically cleaned and prepared to remove contamination and create a suitable key for coating adhesion.
3. Epoxy floor coating application
Two coats of two-pack epoxy floor paint (grey) were applied to achieve a durable, uniform finish.
4. Curing and controlled handback
Access was maintained under control until the coating system had fully cured and the area was safe for use.
