CLADDING CLEANING, RESTORATION & PAINTING

Nicholson McLaren - Berkshire, RG40

Client's Challenge

Nicolson McLaren required a complete external refresh of their manufacturing facility, including cladding cleaning, cladding restoration and commercial repainting to match specified company Pantone colours.

Over time, the cladding had accumulated algae growth and environmental pollutants, negatively impacting the building’s appearance and presenting a risk of long-term substrate deterioration if left untreated.

In addition, internal warehouse floor areas required deep cleaning to remove grease and production debris, followed by preparation for recoating to improve presentation, safety and long-term maintenance control within a live engineering environment.

All works needed to be delivered safely at height, planned around weather conditions, and coordinated carefully to avoid disruption to ongoing production and warehouse operations.

Assessment & Planning

APT ICC carried out an initial site survey to assess:

• The condition of external cladding and extent of algae contamination
• Areas of flaking or failing paint requiring restoration
• Safe access requirements for high-level external works
• Internal warehouse floor contamination levels
• Production constraints and operational priorities

Following the assessment, APT ICC developed a structured delivery plan aligned to site operations, with RAMS prepared to support safe working at height, controlled use of chemical systems, and effective coordination with live manufacturing activity.

Methodology

Step 1: Site mobilisation and access control
APT ICC established controlled working zones and deployed suitable high-level access equipment to allow safe external works while maintaining site safety and access.

Step 2: Cladding algae treatment and cleaning
External cladding was treated with a specialist algae removal solution to kill spores at source. Super-heated steam cleaning was then used to lift environmental pollutants and biological contamination without aggressive abrasion.

Step 3: Cladding restoration and surface preparation
Flaking or compromised paint coatings were removed to prevent future failure. Exposed metal areas were treated using anti-rust primer systems to stabilise the substrate prior to repainting.

Step 4: Commercial cladding repainting
Steel cladding was repainted to the client’s specified Pantone colour scheme, delivering a consistent, professional finish and restoring the building’s external appearance.

Step 5: Warehouse floor deep cleaning and preparation
Internal warehouse floors were mechanically scrubbed to remove grease and traffic soiling. Targeted degreasing was applied to break down oil contamination, leaving floors prepared for recoating where required.

Step 6: Final inspection and handover
APT ICC completed final checks to confirm finish quality across external and internal areas, ensuring the site was left clean, safe and fully operational.
